What is humanity for if we can’t help each other?

At Fika, we are driven by a bold vision: a world where poverty, rooted in rural isolation, is a thing of the past. Imagine communities cut off from essential services—communities where children walk for hours to reach a school, mothers cannot access healthcare, and farmers struggle to bring their goods to market. This is the reality for millions of people living in rural areas, and it’s a reality we are determined to change.

For more than two decades, Fika has been on the frontlines of this battle, creating vital lifelines for isolated communities through the construction of trail bridges. These bridges are not just structures but pathways to opportunity, health, education, and economic growth. With more than 600 trail bridges built or supported across 21 countries, we’ve directly impacted the lives of over 2.8 million people. Our work in Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Zambia has begun to transform these communities, offering them a connection to the world and a chance to thrive.

But our mission goes beyond just building bridges. We are catalysts for systemic change, working hand-in-hand with governments, communities, and global partners to elevate rural transport infrastructure on the international agenda. Our efforts are not just about connecting people physically but about advocating on their behalf for a better future.

The Connector, directed by Ian Mitchell, was born from our desire to amplify our message and increase our ability to create an even more significant impact for these communities. Through this film, we hope the world will understand that investing in rural infrastructure is not just an act of charity; it’s a strategic move to unlock the potential of millions of people, ensuring that no one is left behind. We aim to inspire action, galvanize support, and drive forward a movement that prioritizes sustainable, inclusive development.
